[Webinar] Mahirap Maging Mahirap (UGAT and IPC Webinar on COVID 19)

On April 21, 2020, I presented a talk on health disparities during the COVID-19 pandemic in a webinar entitled "Mahirap Maging Mahirap: How are the poor coping with COVID-19?"

In the webinar moderated by the urban anthroplogist Mary Racelis, Maria Carinnes Alejandria of University of Santo Tomas and Joshua San Pedro of the  Coalition for People's Right to Health presented the struggles faced by urban communities, while I offered some framework about looking at health disparities, which I also discussed in an Inquirer column entitled "COVID-19: Protecting the most vulnerable"

The webinar was co-sponsored by Ugnayang Pang-AghamTao (UGAT), Ateneo de Manila University's Institute of Philippine Culture, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Philippine Center for Health and Research Development.

[Webinar] American Anthropological Association - COVID-19: Responses from Around the Globe

On April 2, I joined an "online conversation" on the COVID-19 pandemic to share the experiences in the Philippines up to that point - identifying an initial period of panic, followed by complacency and finally a dramatic lockdown that the sociologist Randy David called "optics of power". In that same webinar that was moderated by Kristin Hedges, medical anthropologists Davide Barbieri (University of Ferrara, Italy) and Saša Missoni (Institute for Anthropological Research, Zagreb, Croatia) likewise shared experiences from their countries.

The webinar was hosted by the American Anthropological Association and presented by the Society for Medical Anthropology’s Anthropological Responses to Health Emergencies interest group (ARHE), in cooperation with the IUAES Commission on Medical Anthropology and Epidemiology, and the EASA Medical Anthropology Network.
