On March 2, 2022, as the recipient of the Virginia A. Miralao Exellcence in Research Award (VAMERA) given by the Philippine Social Science Council, I gave a lecture for my winning work entitled “Living Together in Precarious Times: COVID-19 in the Philippines”. The presentation was based on the essay which was published a book chapter in Viral Loads: Anthropologies of urgency in the time of COVID-19 (UCL Press, 2021) edited by Lenore Manderson, Nancy J. Burke, and Ayo Wahlberg.
In the presentation, which I updated to reflect changes that took place in the country over the past two years, I charted the enduring role of other species in our experience of the pandemic, as well as how the pandemic continues to affect various species and entire ecosystems.
